ITIL is the acronym used for Information Technology Infrastructure Library. It is a methodology that gives detailed practices of Information Technology Service Management. ITIL v3 to ITIL 4 transition:

If a person has an ITIL v3 certificate, he/she has to approach the ITIL 4 foundation to transition to the new version. There is a large number of new things to learn. That’s why a candidate must take a test to assess the knowledge so that he/she can be promoted further. If you are trying for ITIL 4, you don’t have to worry about the previous ITIL v3 certifications. It will continue to remain valid, and you will still have the same professional value. If you have taken ITIL v3 Foundation, you have to take ITIL 4 Foundation to transition into the new scheme. If you are an ITIL v3 expert, you can go for the ITIL Managing Professional transition module as soon as it gets released to achieve ITIL Managing Designation. After achieving this, you can pursue the ITIL Strategic Leader stream by completing the ITIL Leader Digital and Strategy module. Further, you can also move towards being a master.
