Promote Communication Technologies in an Increasingly Connected World

The need for high-performance communication networks and technologies has never been stronger. FUTEBOL has created its own infrastructure to facilitate the emergence of collaborative innovations around the world.

The world has never been so connected as today. In addition to the smartphones that most of us use every day to communicate, a whole new set of services is emerging on the horizon, such as Industry 4.0massive connectivity of sensor and actuator-based devices, and autonomous and connected vehicles. Communication networks that span the world consist of a combination of wired and wireless systems, fiber optics and cloud infrastructures. As demand for faster, more reliable and more efficient communications continues to grow, it seems essential that technological developments keep pace.

However, as wireless technologies continue to innovate, new challenges and challenges arise that require the integration and cooperation of optical and wireless network architectures. These new challenges are particularly evident in emerging and developing economies, as in Brazil. Improving these connections and facilitating technological breakthroughs would also help more mature markets, such as the EU, which is seeking to re-establish its position at the forefront of communication technologies.

To do this, it would be necessary to share knowledge and expertise on an international level. But that’s exactly what the FUTEBOL project, funded by Horizon 2020, has done. Creating new connections The idea was to put in place a structure for communication and experimentation to design, develop prototypes and test next-generation network services.
